Dorival Júnior is not expected to leave his post before Sunday, after a 3-1 loss at Fluminense left Corinthians winless in eight. Internacional visit Neo Química Arena at 19:30 in the 10th round of the Brasileirão.
Pressure has intensified, with Fiel singing protests at the Maracanã, then Gaviões da Fiel representatives meeting the squad and staff at CT Joaquim Grava on Thursday morning, the early exchanges were notably terse. Record reports that any dismissal would trigger a release clause of around R$ 7 million.
The run comprises draws with Portuguesa, Cruzeiro, Santos, Chapecoense and Flamengo, plus defeats to Novorizontino, which brought a Paulistão semi-final exit, and Coritiba. Corinthians last won on 19 February, 1-0 against Athletico-PR in the second round of a national competition. The coach has also delivered the Copa do Brasil and the Supercopa do Brasil for the Parque São Jorge club.
On 20 March, Dorival spoke about the prospect of being sacked, saying the decision rested with the board. After the defeat in Rio de Janeiro, he accepted responsibility for the team’s performance.
Corinthians are 11th on 10 points from nine rounds, three clear of Santos, who occupy the first relegation place.
