Douglas Costa ‘to play’ for Chievo Verona before Al-Itiffaq move

Flamengo explored Douglas Costa in 2022 but talks stalled. The winger will now be a Chievo Verona player in Italy’s Serie D.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Douglas Costa has signed for Chievo Verona and will later play for Al-Itiffaq in Dubai, as the clubs share the same owner.

He is expected to feature for Chievo Verona until the end of the European season in June, then head to Dubai with the aim of playing for Al-Itiffaq.

In December 2022, then vice-president of football at Flamengo, Marcos Braz, was seen at a restaurant with Douglas Costa. Supporter anger over a potential deal followed, and discussions did not advance.

Flamengo have announced two signings in this window, Vitão and Andrew. The club are now focusing on Lucas Paquetá as the priority for this market.
