Dr Anthony Hoban appointed Head of Medical and Performance | OneFootball

Shelbourne FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Anthony Hoban as the club’s new Head of Medical and Performance.

Dr Hoban brings extensive experience across sports medicine, general practice and elite football environments, and will oversee all medical, rehabilitation and player welfare programmes across the club.

Dr Hoban is a General Practitioner with a special interest in Sports and Exercise Medicine. He qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2013 and completed Specialist GP training and Core Surgical Training before becoming a Fellow of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine. He has also holds a Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine from University College Cork and prior to qualifying as a doctor, he completed a BSc in Physiotherapy at RCSI in 2008.

He’s been first team doctor at Shelbourne FC since 2022 and his new expanded role will see his remit take an overarching view of the clubs performance health and medical department. His football experience includes roles as Team Doctor with Shamrock Rovers, the Republic of Ireland Under 18 Men’s Team and Bray Wanderers FC.

Through this work, he established Hoban Health to manage a growing Sports and Exercise Medicine service alongside his general practice commitments across South Dublin and Wicklow.

Dr Hoban’s appointment further strengthens the club’s commitment to a football first ethos that underpins everything we do and enforces our  commitment to elite medical care and best practice across all levels of the club from academy to first team.
