The Eddie Howe Brighton Press Conference has taken place.
The Newcastle United Head Coach speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s game.
United facing Brighton at 2pm on Saturday at the Amex Stadium.
Eddie Howe Brighton press conference – 2 May 2025:
“We always have a tough game against Brighton.
“The two games against them this season I thought were really tight games and could have gone either way.
“But we were on the wrong side of them unfortunately.
“We back ourselves against anybody but we know we will have to play at our very best.”
Eddie Howe on Newcastle United’s remaining fixtures:
“You want to be in control of your destiny.
“I think with four games to go we are but we are very aware it can change in one round of games.
“There’s no let up for us.
“Our run of results has been impressive but what we don’t want to do is tail off right at the end, so tough fixtures to come but we believe in the team.”
Eddie Howe on Will Osula:
“I always encourage the players to be themselves and Will is very much himself.
“Hopefully the supporters take to that personality and I think they have, and it’s great to see.
“The love and affection between player and supporter is so important. He will feel that love and that will help his game.
He’s bright, he’s bubbly, he’s enthusiastic, he’s passionate and they’re positive things and will help his career.
“For us it’s about being consistent with our development of him.
“Not everybody has his ability and his attributes so it’s about honing those skills and making sure we continue to get him ready for the rigours of the Premier League.”
Eddie Howe on Joelinton
“The likelihood is that it will be difficult [if he will play again this season].
“But with Joe you never rule him out. He’s so motivated to try and come back.
“He had a bit of discomfort in his knee last week before the game so we sought specialist opinion and the opinion was it was nothing serious but he needed a period of rest so he’s now in Brazil.
“We’ll wait and see if we can get him back before the end of the season but the likelihood is probably not.”
Eddie Howe on Sven Botman:
“He came through last weekend OK [against Ipswich].
“He trained again this week and looks good, so it’s been positive to have him back.”
So as things appear to stand, only Joelinton, Matt Targett, Lewis Hall and Jamaal Lascelles will be definitely unavailable for this Brighton match on Sunday.
