The Eddie Howe Crystal Palace Press Conference has taken place.
The Newcastle United Head Coach speaking to the media ahead of Monday night’s match at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe and the players hoping to bounce back from that defeat to West Ham at St James’ Park.
Having had that trio of victories over Chelsea, Arsenal and Forest before the most recent international break.
Eddie Howe Crystal Palace press conference on Friday:
Eddie Howe on the fitness/availability of Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock:
“They have a chance to play.
“They’re not serious injuries so we’ll make a decision today.”
Eddie Howe on Fabian Schar and Joelinton being just one yellow card away from a one-match suspension:
“It’s a difficult one to go into too much detail on that with the players, because they need to be free to play their game.
“Joelinton’s biggest strength is his ability to win the ball and be physical.
“Part of the reason I withdrew him on Monday is to make sure I had him for the next game because he’s such a pivotal player for us.
“The likelihood is that these players will get booked before the cut-off point, but that’s why we have the squad.”
Eddie Howe on the performance against West Ham:
“For the first 60 minutes, I thought the performance was pretty good.
“There was a lot of reflection, a lot of analysis and a lot of work done on the training ground since.”
Eddie Howe asked about Newcastle United’s away form:
“We have to be positive in every respect.
“The league is still so tight and consecutive wins can elevate you.
“Our last away performance was very strong and I see no reason we can’t deliver that again.”
Eddie Howe asked about facing transfer target Marc Guehi:
“It is very difficult to comment too deeply on him.
“Marc is somebody we respect, he is a very good player.”
Eddie Howe asked how Sandro Tonali gets back into the team:
“Sandro has been good and he’s trained really well, especially this week.
“He did really well against Forest [when coming on as a sub] when the game was in the balance.
“He played a big part in moving that game towards us.
“He is doing himself no harm in training.”
Eddie Howe asked about how important it is to have a strong squad of players available, especially before this upcoming busy schedule of matches:
“It is a position we weren’t in at all last season.
“Certainly you want that squad depth, especially this [coming] month.
“December will be crucial. Intense period.
“We need that squad choice because naturally we’re going to pick up injuries along the way.”
