Eibar hails Oyarzabal after Spain’s World Cup win | OneFootball

Eibar is celebrating Mikel Oyarzabal after Spain’s World Cup triumph in the United States, the Real Sociedad captain scoring five goals in a record-filled tournament.

According to Diario Vasco, talk of Oyarzabal has dominated cafés, parks and the barbershop run by his friend Álex Muguruza, where locals watched the final. They felt Spain controlled the game while staying wary of Argentina’s threat.

Having played virtually the whole tournament, his substitution in the 60th minute felt a low point for those gathered. It soon turned positive, with Ferran coming on to score the winner.

They toasted the victory and sent Oyarzabal a photo featuring a white Spain shirt with the number 21 signed by the group. He replied quickly, even as celebrations in New York lasted into the early hours.

Muguruza sees his statistics as extraordinary, placing him near Haaland and Mbappé, yet says his values and straightforward nature matter most, just as in their childhood. His group of friends plan to greet him again when possible, this time without the surprise.

Coach Manix Mandiola says many were slow to recognise Oyarzabal’s value, and is struck by his consistency, by having played every match and become so important. He expected a very good player after Real Sociedad signed him at 14, though not one reaching such heights. In Eibar, pride runs deep and, happily, such honours have become routine after the Cup and the Euros.
