Eintracht Frankfurt are assessing Marco Rose as Dino Toppmöller’s successor, with Dennis Schmitt and Alexander Meier to lead the trip to Baku on an interim basis, Markus Krösche said.

According to Bild, Frankfurt have identified the former Gladbach, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig coach as their preferred option, and talks are said to be in the final stages after the 49-year-old opened the door despite previously planning to stay away from coaching.

One hurdle remains, Rose is still under contract with RB Leipzig, so in theory Frankfurt would need to pay a fee to their Bundesliga rivals.

If the move collapses, alternatives mentioned include Xabi Alonso, Roger Schmidt and Edin Terzic.

Krösche said the club want a brave, attacking coach who is prepared to develop players.
