New Eintracht Frankfurt signing Ritsu Doan scored an absolute dream goal in Saturday’s Bundesliga victory over Hoffenheim. Thanks in large part to Doan’s wonder-strike, Eintracht continue to vindicate those who considered them legitimate title contenders at the beginning of the season. Maximum points from their first two league fixtures leave Frankfurt tied with Bayern on points at the top of the table.

Red hot SGE prospect Can Uzun received his chance to set a club record last week in the 4-1 dismantling of Bremen. This time around, it was Doan’s turn to set a personal record. The former Arminia Bielefeld and SC Freiburg attacker had never collected three scorer-points in a single game throughout his 133 Bundesliga appearances. Thanks to two goals and an assist in the latest 1-3 away win, Doan now has this milestone to commemorate.

Squaring off against a very good Hoffenheim side, Frankfurt first had to contend with the bad news that lead striker Jonathan Burkardt was a late injury scratch. Doan ultimately ensured that this didn’t matter. Cutting in on the right side in the 17th minute, Doan curled in a lovely delicate effort from 18 meters out on his team’s 0-1. Ten minutes later, Doan completed his brace by poking in the 0-2 from close range.

Doan concluded his involvement in all three SGE goals on the afternoon by setting up Uzun’s 0-3 in the 51st-minute with an ultra-cheeky pass through the legs of Hoffenheim defender Arthur Chavez. As silky smooth as assist on Uzun’s tally was, Doan’s opening goal led to him answering questions about the famous “Arjen Robben” touch in the Japanese international’s post-match interview with Sky Germany.

He’s a legend and my idol because I also played at FC Groningen,” Doan told Sky when answering the question about Robben. “I still have a lot to work on and will work hard to reach his level. Many other players still help me score goals. Rasmus Kristensen [who works directly behind Doan on the right-hand-side] really helps me focus a lot more on offense.”
