Haralabos Voulgaris’s latest bold call at Castellón is the appointment of Juan Casajús to the B-team dugout, after the Aragonese coach went viral and drew comparisons with Pep Guardiola.

According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Casajús has risen from relative obscurity to become one of Spain’s most discussed emerging coaches after a Segunda Federación game turned him into an online phenomenon that reached as far as Kuwait.

It began in Utebo against Ejea. With his side 0-2 down on 80 minutes, he withdrew goalkeeper Jorge Chanza and introduced Pablo Puyod to operate as a goalkeeper-player, stepping forward to create an extra man. The switch changed the game’s rhythm and Utebo levelled for 2-2, igniting widespread debate on social media and beyond.

Casajús later outlined that the concept had been years in the making. At Arenteiro he had explored how an active goalkeeper in the attacking phase could create advantages, refining the idea in training before selecting the right moment to use it in competition.

His education at La Masia shaped a focus on positional play, space occupation and creating overloads. Before joining Utebo, he worked as assistant at Arenteiro, where challenges encouraged constant adaptation and alternative solutions.

The innovation brought comparisons with leading coaches such as Guardiola, though Casajús has stressed it is a reinterpretation of existing tools in the modern game. Castellón B is his next challenge.
