Vedat Muriqi missed a late penalty at the Martínez Valero, denying Mallorca an equaliser that would have kept them out of the drop zone. Elche instead claimed a priceless win that reignites the relegation fight.

Goals from Rafa Mir and Tete Morente secured the points for Eder Sarabia’s side. According to Superdeporte, home supporters had not seen a win for three months. It was also their first victory of 2026, the previous one coming in the 4-0 against Rayo Vallecano on 21 December.

Elche climb to 16th on 29 points, two and three fewer than Sevilla and Valencia respectively. Those two meet tonight at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Mallorca drop back into the relegation zone in 18th with 28 points, level with Alavés who visit Celta on Sunday.

Elche had fallen into the bottom three for the first time last weekend after a 4-1 defeat at Real Madrid. The result at the Martínez Valero has nudged the survival line up by two points, and whoever loses in Seville tonight will remain in trouble in the LaLiga table.
