Elland Road came together for an emotional tribute as Leeds United drew 0-0 with Brentford, the football secondary to remembrance. The night honoured Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, murdered in Istanbul 26 years ago.
As reported by yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, thousands filled the stadium on Saturday to pay their respects. The focus was unity and memory.
Before kick-off, chairman Paraag Marathe and managing director Robbie Evans laid wreaths at the memorial plaque outside the ground. A minute’s applause then rang out.
During the game, supporters turned their backs on the action, repeating the act from 26 years ago that has continued annually. The gesture echoed across the stands.
Fans travelled from far and wide to support Leeds and remember Chris and Kev. It was the final Elland Road fixture before the April five anniversary of their deaths, marked here in a powerful selection of images.
