A battle between both Manchester clubs is brewing, not on the football pitch but in the transfer market, with both sides having their eyes on the same prize.
If there is one area that Manchester United would dearly like to upgrade, it is the midfield, with Casemiro announcing he will depart once the season ends.
Manuel Ugarte‘s time is also expected to be cut short, which means more than one addition is expected.
INEOS seem to prefer players with Premier League experience, which is why Elliot Anderson is currently the top target despite Nottingham Forest’s travails this season.
Forest are expected to ask in excess of £90 million, with United open to breaking their transfer record to get their man.
However, Manchester City remain in pole position, and are even prepared to offer the Englishman a key role by selling two of their most influential stars in the summer.
According to Teamtalk, Rodri and Bernardo City both could make way with the Cityzens making their plans for the 23-year-old clear to the player’s camp.
“Manchester City believe they are in pole position to finalise a move for England midfielder Elliot Anderson this summer, sources have confirmed to TEAMtalk, and with the Cityzens open to allowing two of their influential stars to move on.
“Nottingham Forest have long accepted that Anderson is set to leave the City Ground this summer, and they are poised to receive a substantial fee for a player acquired for £35million in 2024.
“And while we reported that Manchester United are also very much keen and have made clear their intentions to pay a fee that could shatter their transfer record for the six-times capped England star, we can reveal that it is now City who look very much in the clear to seal a deal.
“We understand that City have consistently been in pole position to strike a deal, leveraging their reputation and making clear their plans for the Whitley Bay-born star. This summer was always expected to be transformative for City, with possible departures of Bernardo Silva and Rodri.”
A leading role at the Etihad Stadium versus playing for the biggest club in the world. Elliot Anderson now has to choose while INEOS must present a clear-cut plan like their noisy neighbours.
