Elliot Anderson: Man United make clear decision on “perfect” target

Manchester United need to find ways to improve in the January and summer transfer windows.

Nonetheless, matches like last night, when United drew 1-1 with bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers, remind fans there is still much work to be done.

One area that everyone can agree needs improvement is the midfield.

Bruno Fernandes’ and Kobbie Mainoo’s injuries have exposed the lack of depth in the team, with Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim having been forced to play Lisandro Martinez in the middle against Aston Villa and Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro versus Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Options

The Red Devils have predominantly been linked to midfielders with Premier League experience.

Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba are both high up the list as potential targets.

United have also been heavily linked to a move for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. The 23-year-old has become an England international this season and has turned himself into one of the most coveted midfielders in the league.

“All out” for Anderson

According to former Manchester United scout, Mick Brown, in comments carried by Football Insider, United have identified their main target to improve the midfield.

Brown stated, “Elliot Anderson is the top target for Man United. They should be bending over backwards to bring him in, and from what I hear, they are prepared to go all out because they don’t want to miss out on him.”

He also stated that it is unlikely they will make a move for the Englishman in January and may need to be “patient” to secure a deal.

The former scout continued, “but he’s seen as the perfect option for Amorim, because he’s showing for Forest and for England that he can dominate games on his own ability, not just if his team is doing well.”

His ability to cover ground, win duels and pick a pass are all highly respected by United. As a result, Brown added, “it’s exactly what United have been looking for and they know it, so they want to make sure they’re the ones to bring him in, nobody else.”
