One Liverpool star could be set for an emotional return. A deal is currently being sought.
It's not clear what Liverpool will do with Kostas Tsimikas this season. The Greek left-back returns to Anfield after a year with AS Roma and a difficult one at that.
Tsimikas started just six Serie A fixtures, featuring in a mere 18. And yet, he could take a role in Liverpool's first-team squad for the upcoming campaign.
Andy Robertson's exit creates a need for a new left-back. Liverpool likely don't want to buy one just a year since paying a large amount for Milos Kerkez.
However, Tsimikas was rejected last summer. The Reds moved him on because they didn't believe he was good enough and we fully expect Liverpool to welcome offers again in 2026.
Page News in Greece suggests there will be at least one on the way: from Olympiacos. Tsimikas's old club would like him back, though that's something they tried last year.
Tsimikas wasn't entirely keen on the move in 2025, nor could they pay an asking price that Liverpool were happy with. We'll see if either changes this time around.
Roma Loan and Anfield Return
As of 8 June 2026, Kostas Tsimikas is officially returning to Liverpool following the conclusion of his season-long loan spell at AS Roma. The 30-year-old Greek left-back experienced a testing 2025/26 campaign in Italy, making 18 Serie A appearances under Gian Piero Gasperini. Despite the loan move, Liverpool notably attempted to recall the defender during the January transfer window to bolster their options, though the deal ultimately did not materialise.
Squad Role and New Management
Tsimikas heads back to Merseyside at a pivotal moment for the club’s defensive setup. Following the high-profile departure of long-serving left-back Andy Robertson to Tottenham Hotspur, the position has opened up significantly. While Milos Kerkez remains a primary option for the club, Tsimikas has signalled his intent to remain at Anfield and compete for a starting role under new head coach Andoni Iraola. Recent indicators, including the player updating his social media presence to feature Liverpool colours, suggest he is actively preparing for pre-season training with the squad.
