Harry Kane has long been more than just a goalscorer at FC Bayern. With 28 goals after 23 Bundesliga matchdays, the Englishman is currently chasing Robert Lewandowski’s historic record. He is 13 goals short of equalling the 41-goal mark from the 2020/21 season. While the record hunt is in full swing, many fans are still asking themselves another question: will Kane stay in Munich for the long term?
According to Lothar Matthäus, the answer is a resounding yes. Speaking on Sky90, the record international was convinced that the 30-year-old will extend his contract, which runs until June 2027. „He’s winning title after title, which he didn’t manage before in England. So I see no reason why Harry Kane should leave this club or its environment,“ explained Matthäus. His prediction was clear: „He will be extended. I’m sure of it.“

Kane moved to Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 for a Bundesliga record transfer fee of just under €100 million. Since then, he has delivered consistently – both athletically and mentally. For Matthäus, it’s not just the goals that play a decisive role, but also the framework conditions. „He knows what he has in the coach; he repays the trust that the coach gives him. He plays in a functioning team. Who knows if he would shine like that elsewhere? Who knows if he could play like he does here under Kompany?“
According to Matthäus, Kane also feels very much at home in the Bavarian capital. The family has arrived, the environment is right. In addition, Kane has long been a global figurehead of the league. „Even the competitors are happy that we have him in the Bundesliga. He is a global brand, he is the second Beckham, because everyone in the world knows him,“ Matthäus continued. „He has no enviers – not even in Frankfurt, not in Dortmund.“
Most recently, Kane had been linked with FC Barcelona. Presidential candidate Xavier Vilajoana had publicly stated that contact had been made with the Bayern striker’s entourage. But Kane himself reacted calmly after the 3-2 win against Eintracht Frankfurt. „I haven’t heard anything about it,“ he clarified
For Matthäus, the situation is clear anyway. In his view, sporting success, the confidence of the coach and family satisfaction clearly speak in favour of him staying. Everything points to the fact that the success story between Harry Kane and FC Bayern is not yet over.
