Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been left out of England’s 2026 World Cup squad after Thomas Tuchel named his 26-man group on Friday morning. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the Leeds United striker was overlooked.
Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney of Al-Ahli join Harry Kane as the three strikers. Calvert-Lewin scored his 14th Premier League goal in last weekend’s 1-0 win at Brighton, moving joint-top among English scorers.
Toney has not featured under Tuchel for almost 12 months, yet he has 32 goals in 32 Saudi Pro League matches this season.
Calvert-Lewin ended a five-year wait for international football in March, coming off the bench for just over half an hour against Uruguay. He then made a pre-planned return to Thorp Arch before the second friendly against Japan.
On the Official Leeds United podcast, he said the recall felt great and that playing at a World Cup is a childhood dream, but selection remains the manager’s call. He added he could only keep scoring and accept whatever follows.
Former Elland Road loanee Djed Spence has been included and will head to the USA, Canada and Mexico. He joined Leeds on loan in summer 2023 for a £1 million fee, made seven appearances, then returned to Tottenham in January.
Elsewhere, Gabriel Gudmundsson has been called up by Sweden, Ao Tanaka by Japan and Noah Okafor by Switzerland. Anton Stach has missed out on Germany selection.
