Thomas Tuchel’s side are due to face Miami United, who play in the fourth tier of US football, at Palm Beach Gardens.

The National Premier Soccer League side are expected to arrive at England’s Florida training base in between Saturday’s official friendly against New Zealand in Tampa and next Wednesday’s final warm-up match against Costa Rica in Orlando.

The game itself will not be a full 90-minute game but will instead be used by England to fine-tune certain combinations and to run through set-piece routines. It is expected to be an 11-v-11 match but will not be played at full intensity.

Tuchel and England are going big on set pieces this summer as they try to combat the North American heat by maximising their chances of scoring outside of open play in order to preserve energy through the tournament.

An unofficial match of this ilk between two teams is known as a “scrimmage” in the United States.

Miami United are the oldest football club in the city and are coached by Claudio Frean, who was once manager of the Haiti Under-20s national team.

Saturday’s match against New Zealand sees England play in Miami for the first time since a goalless draw with Honduras sent them off to the ill-fated 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

England will face Croatia, Ghana and Panama in their group, and will hope to earn a kind first knockout game, but a host nation may well lie in await in the last-16 stage, and it could only get tougher from there.
