The Chelsea dressing room is tense, with several players unhappy with vice-captain Enzo Fernández’s leadership during a slump and amid historic financial losses, The Telegraph reports.

The Argentine midfielder has faced internal criticism over recent behaviour. During a run of four consecutive defeats, he publicly rebuked team-mates on the pitch, which is said to have stirred unease in a squad chasing a top-five Premier League finish.

His approach after defeats to PSG, Newcastle and Everton was also described as highly vocal. The situation intensified after Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League by the Parisians, when the 25-year-old cast doubt on his future at Stamford Bridge.

Some have noted the irony, given the former Benfica man has clashed with ex-Chelsea players who departed, while those players did not publicly question their futures when representing the club.

John Obi Mikel criticised such talk, saying Chelsea is not a stepping stone and that anyone whose heart is already in Madrid should not wear blue, adding they played for the badge rather than a future transfer.
