Enzo Maresca reacts to latest Chelsea goalkeeper error | OneFootball

Enzo Maresca has admitted he's concerned about the goalkeeping situation at Chelsea after Filip Jorgensen's error let Aston Villa snatch all three points in Saturday's late game.

The Danish goalkeeper allowed Marco Asensio's volley to squirm under his body in the dying embers of the game, consigning Chelsea to a third defeat in their last four Premier League games.

Jorgensen made some important stops earlier in the match, denying both Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey, but his late lapse in concentration has increased the spotlight on Chelsea's goalkeeping options after Maresca's decision to drop Robert Sanchez in favour of the 22-year-old.

Speaking post-match, Maresca said of his current dilemma: "I am always concerned, even when we were winning games, I was concerned. Now for sure.

"The problem with that with goalkeepers, it is a delicate position and when they make a mistake, everyone can see. Unfortunately today, our goalkeeper [Filip Jorgensen] made a mistake. This is a moment we need to support each other and try to stay strong."

Pressed on whether Jorgensen will retain his place in the side, Maresca was non-committal as he said: "I don't know. In this moment, it is not today's mistake that I am going to change my mind about Filip in this moment. We will see."

Maresca, who was given a vote of confidence earlier in the week by co-owner Jonathan Goldstein amid mounting pressure, thought his side created more chances against Villa than they had in their previous two outings, but admitted his side need to do better over the course of a full 90 minutes.

"It is a tough one because compared to the game against Brighton, the performance and reaction were good. At the moment, we are in a bad run. but we need to stick together and try to win games. I have a feeling we will go again if we win a game. Until that, we need to work hard and try to get the win as soon as possible.

"We created many chances. Last two games, we struggled with that and lacked a threat. Today, Pedro [Neto] played really well and we tried with him during the week. It works well with him. But we did not win and we have to be upset."

"Once again today, we showed we can be good for long parts of the game. But that's not enough. The performance has to be complete. We need to score goals when we have the chance and defend well, but I thought we defended well today. It is a moment were we were also a bit unlucky."
