Erica Meg, 18, has left Portugal to continue her career in the United States, joining Courage in the NWSL and ending her spell at Valadares Gaia.

According to Glorioso 1904, Benfica had targeted the England youth international but she chose the United States move instead.

Regarded as one of the standout prospects to emerge in Liga BPI, her rise drew interest from several clubs across Europe and North America.

Courage’s interest had been known for weeks and was finalised after her contract with Valadares Gaia ended.

Born in Singapore to an English father and Japanese mother, Meg moved to Portugal at a young age, where she completed much of her development and signed her first professional deal.

Benfica, champions for a sixth successive season, boast leading figures such as Carole Costa, Christy Ucheibe and Daniela Santos.
