Erik ten Hag is one of the managers being considered to replace Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen should the Spaniard take over at Real Madrid.

Alonso has long been linked with the role and with Carlo Ancelotti expected to take the Brazil national team job it seems that the former Liverpool midfielder is destined for the hot seat at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Ten Hag is currently without a club since being dismissed by Manchester United earlier in the season after having won the FA Cup and League Cup during his stint in the Premier League with Sky Sports in Germany now linking him to Leverkusen.

The German side are keeping their options open though with Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil also linked with the job.

After finishing surprise winners in the Bundesliga last season, Leverkusen are now almost certain to finish second this season behind a resurgent Bayern Munich with three games left to play.
