Barcelona return to La Liga action, aiming to extend their lead at the top and maintain momentum at a crucial stage of the season.

With a four-point cushion over Real Madrid, every match now carries added significance, and the clash against Rayo Vallecano at Camp Nou is no exception.

The Catalan side come into this fixture riding a wave of confidence after dismantling Newcastle United 7-2 in the Champions League.

Domestically, Barcelona have been relentless. With 23 wins from 28 matches and 77 goals scored, they have set the standard in Spain this season.

However, their earlier 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano serves as a reminder that complacency is not an option.

On that note, let’s take a look at how the team could lineup later today

Defence

Heading into this game, Flick provided reassurance regarding his goalkeeper situation.

After some concern during the Newcastle match, he confirmed that Joan Garcia is fully fit and ready to start, and there is no reason for him to change that today.

There will, however, be a subtle adjustment in defence. Eric Garcia is expected to miss out on the starting XI due to ongoing muscle fatigue, and that opens the door for Xavi Espart to step in at right-back.

It is not a drastic change because Espart has shown his quality before.

The rest of the backline is expected to remain untouched. Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin have developed into a dependable centre-back pairing, combining composure with defensive awareness.

On the left, Joao Cancelo’s attacking presence continues to add an extra dimension, giving Barcelona width and creativity from deeper areas.

Midfield

Midfield is where Flick could introduce more noticeable changes.

With the international break approaching, this is an ideal opportunity to manage workloads without disrupting the team’s balance.

Dani Olmo is pushing for a starting role and could come in for Fermin Lopez, offering a slightly different profile with his technical control and ability to operate between the lines.

Meanwhile, Marc Casado presents another interesting option. With no international commitments, he is fresh and available, something that could work in his favour.

This could also be the moment to give Marc Bernal a breather after a demanding run of games.

Furthermore, even with potential rotations, one name remains untouchable – Pedri

Attack

In the attack, Flick appears ready to make a calculated decision.

Rather than overburden Robert Lewandowski, there is a strong possibility that Ferran Torres will lead the line

Out wide, there are no surprises expected, as Raphinha and Lamine Yamal are set to continue on the flanks, and rightly so.

Both players have been crucial in stretching defences and creating opportunities, with Yamal in particular continuing to show maturity well beyond his years.

There is a case for Marcus Rashford to make an impact, but the England international is likely to be introduced later in the match.
