After months of speculation, Barcelona have finally confirmed that they won’t be able to host their opening home game at Camp Nou this weekend.
With the club slated to take on Valencia on Sunday, Barcelona have confirmed that the game will be played at Estadi Johan Cruyff.
This comes after the club failed to gain the necessary grant to host the match at Camp Nou while Montjuic was unavailable owing to a Post Malone concert.
As reported by Diario SPORT, Johan Cruyff Stadium will make history this weekend by becoming the stadium with the lowest capacity to host a La Liga game, at least in this century.
This refers to matches where a full crowd was allowed, as Real Madrid, during the pandemic, did play at the 5,700-seater Alfredo Di Stefano stadium.
Estadi Johan Cruyff, to that end, has a capacity of 6,000, thus becoming the stadium with the lowest capacity to host a La Liga game.

Until now, the stadium with the lowest capacity to host a La Liga game was Ipurua, the home of Eibar, who debuted in the first division during the 2014/15 campaign with a capacity of 6,267.
SD Huesca’s stadium, El Alcoraz, had a capacity of 5,000 spectators, but it was increased to 8,000 following the club’s promotion to the top-flight in the 2018/19 campaign.
As far as this season is concerned, the Coliseum of Getafe has the lowest capacity, operating with a full capacity of just 11,000 due to renovation works.
Nevertheless, Barcelona have their task cut out as they look to make Johan Cruyff match-ready by Sunday – a process that would involve the installation of VAR cameras, among other things.
As of yesterday evening, there was minimal activity seen around the stadium premises, though the works are expected to speed up today.
