Everton have entered the race to sign one of Manchester United’s most talented stars before the deadline on Monday.
Everton have already added eight new faces, including Jack Grealish and Tyler Dibling, to their ranks this summer.
However, there could be another “late surprise” as David Moyes is keen to bring in a midfielder to challenge the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and James Garner.
Garner left Old Trafford for a move to Merseyside in 2022. Now, the Toffees have set their sights on another United academy product.
Everton recently saw their bid for West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek turned down.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey (via Everton News), Everton could now turn their attention to Kobbie Mainoo.
“Everton are one of the teams who are keen on Mainoo and are certainly going to be in the mix, but there are so many sides keen,” said Bailey.
It is understood Mainoo’s camp are “considering their options” after the Englishman’s struggle for regular starts under Ruben Amorim.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming that there is a belief United would “accept around £45m, potentially even less” for the 20-year-old midfielder.
Apart from Everton, Brighton and Brentford have also shown interest in Mainoo, who showed glimpses of his immense potential on Thursday night.
In his first appearance of the new season, Mainoo was the best of a bad bunch in United’s League Cup exit against Grimsby Town.
Mainoo was energetic all night and looked promising in possession. He played a nice through ball for Bryan Mbeumo’s goal in the second half. Whether that would be enough to force his way into Amorim’s starting lineup in the Premier League remains to be seen.
