Everton were in talks over a deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler yesterday, according to L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi.

Everton manager David Moyes still wants to bolster his options in the middle of the park at the Hill Dickinson Stadium club, and the Spaniard was considered.

Moyes and Soler worked together at West Ham United last term, and the Toffees boss was open to a reunion.

However, the 28-year-old has agreed to join Real Sociedad on a season-long loan with an option to buy included in the deal.

Everton will now have to look elsewhere, and more deals are likely being secretly looked at right now.

Soler would have been a solid addition as he impressed during the 31 Premier League appearances he made last term with the Hammers.

He is not in the plans of PSG manager Luis Enrique, and while he is on his way back home, it would be interesting to know why a move to Everton did not materialise.

The Blues have added Tyler Dibling, Tom King, Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Charly Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers and Adam Aznou to their team, but they have plans to get more players in.

Moyes is still looking to sign a right-back and a defensive midfielder, with the likes of Lyon’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Barcelona’s Hector Fort and Norwich’s Kellen Fisher on his radar.

Everton have agreed loan terms with Sevilla for Scotland international right-back Nathan Patterson, but a replacement could be brought in before he is allowed to leave.

Moyes also tried to reunite with West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek, but the Hammers knocked back his attempt to lure one of their best players to Merseyside.

Everton have this weekend and Monday to get a deal for a new defensive midfielder done, and time is not on their side.
