Anthony Patterson is now appearing on the Toffees' radar, but he may not be Sean Dyche's first-choice stopper at Goodison Park.

Everton have taken an interest in Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson.

This is according to HITC, who have also reported that Liverpool remain interested in the shot-stopper, who is currently flying high at the top end of the Championship table.

Patterson has been crucial for the Black Cats in recent years, with his contributions during the latter stages of the 2021/22 campaign helping them to secure a return to the second tier of English football.

His performances have also allowed the club to establish themselves as a solid side in their current division - and it's no shock that he has been the subject of interest from various teams since he managed to nail down his place as the Wearside outfit's first-choice keeper.

Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers were previously reported to be interested in securing an agreement for the player, but nothing came of that in the end and the Black Cats were able to retain him.

On the field, Patterson has performed well for the most part and off it, the Black Cats have been very smart.

Tying the goalkeeper down to multiple extensions in recent years, the second-tier side are ensuring that they won't lose him for a small amount in the coming years.

His current contract doesn't expire until the summer of 2028 and with this in mind, Regis Le Bris' side are in a very strong negotiating position.

Any side that wants to recruit Patterson will probably need to fork out a sizeable amount for the player, but that may not deter some Premier League teams if they have the funds to get a deal over the line for the keeper.

Everton join race for Anthony Patterson

The Toffees are the latest side to take an interest in Patterson, according to HITC, amid speculation about Jordan Pickford's starting place at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche's side are struggling massively right now and will be one of the favourites to go down, even though it's only the early stages of the season.

The Merseyside outfit aren't interested in replacing Pickford, according to this HITC report, but they have taken an interest in Patterson, who could potentially be Pickford's understudy.

Arne Slot's Reds are also believed to be interested in the player - and the Black Cats' stopper could potentially arrive as a replacement for Caoimhin Kelleher - who could potentially move on at some point.

Sunderland should retain firm stance on Anthony Patterson despite Premier League interest

The Black Cats have richly benefitted from having Patterson in their team.

It seems clear that he will make the move up to the top level sooner rather than later, with or without his current side.

For now, the Wearside club should be looking to retain him, because they could easily compete for promotion this term following a promising start.

Saturday's loss was a setback, but they still look a real threat and if they can tighten things up at the back, they will have a good chance of securing a top-six finish.

Having Patterson at their disposal will help them defensively, if he can perform well consistently.
