Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a doubt with an ankle injury and could join fellow forward Armando Broja on the sidelines. James Garner, Dwight McNeil and Tim Iroegbunam are also unavailable.

Incredibly, the contest could see a father vs son matchup on the pitch. 18-year-old Peterborough midfielder Tyler Young is the son of Everton defender Ashley.

Here is everything you need to know about the clash.

Everton vs Peterborough – Match preview and team news

Form

Everton: DDDLL

Everton have won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions with Dyche dismissed after a period of pressure.

The club’s new owners, The Friedkin Group, will seek a new direction and improvement from a side that has badly struggled for goals.

Everton have scored just once in their last five fixtures, while back-to-back defeats to Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth has left the Toffees just a point above the Premier League’s relegation places.

Peterborough: LLLDL

Peterborough head to Everton in torrid form with The Posh having won just one of their last nine League One fixtures. Having been beaten in the promotion play-offs last season, Darren Ferguson’s side find themselves 19th in the third tier this time around.

The summer sales of Ronnie Edwards and Harrison Burrows have been felt, and Peterborough find themselves just five points above the drop zone. Kwame Poku will be key to their chances of an upset. The 23-year-old is attracting interest from rival clubs having scored 10 league goals this season.

Last Meeting: Peterborough 1-2 Everton, League Cup, 19th September 2006

The two teams have met just once previously with Everton edging past The Posh to reach the third round of the League Cup.

Everton opened the scoring through a Jude Stirling own goal but Trevor Benjamin levelled to spark home hope of an upset. However, Tim Cahill came off the bench to score the winner and book Everton’s place in the draw for the next round.
