Everton are reportedly in talks with David Moyes about a remarkable return to the club as manager after sacking Sean Dyche.
Given that it is not April 1, will someone please make sense of this?
Many Everton fans will be delighted to see the back of Dyche because he is ‘too pragmatic’. Anti-football. A dinosaur. And so on.
His replacement could be a man who lost his last job at West Ham United for being too pragmatic. You can’t make this stuff up.
Moyes’ familiarity with Everton has been cited as a reason for his return. He also has plenty of Premier League experience. Neither reason stacks up.
The club has changed since Moyes left 12 years ago. Dyche undoubtedly has more current knowledge of its workings and is no stranger to the Premier League.
In reality, Dyche and Moyes are cut from the same cloth. Replacing one with the other would show zero ambition on Everton’s part.
This evening’s FA Cup fare is a little uninspiring. However, Borussia Dortmund versus Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga should keep everyone entertained.
