FC Bayern experienced a memorable Champions League semi-final – and despite the spectacular 5-4 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain, did not lose faith in the final. Nine goals, two penalties and a game full of twists and turns made the clash at the Parc des Princes the highest-scoring semi-final in the competition’s history
Munich got off to a strong start and took an early lead through a Harry Kane penalty, but PSG responded with an ice-cold response and turned the game around before the break. After goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and João Neves and another penalty from Ousmane Dembélé, the German record champions were 3-2 down at half-time
It remained wild after the break, with PSG pulling away to 5:2 thanks to further goals from Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé. But Bayern once again showed morale: Dayot Upamecano and Luis Díaz reduced the deficit and made the game exciting again. In the end, however, it was not enough to equalize
Despite the defeat, Jonathan Tah was satisfied with his team’s performance after the game: „Yes, it was a very, very intense game. Despite the fact that we lost, I think we really showed what kind of team we are in many phases today,“ explained the centre-back in an interview with Prime Video
He particularly highlighted how the team dealt with setbacks: „We dealt with setbacks, and also with difficult refereeing decisions,“ continued Tah. The 30-year-old was particularly critical of some decisions: „I wasn’t quite sure about the penalty, I’ll have to look at it again. Okay, we had one or two small fouls that I didn’t quite understand.“
Nevertheless, Tah emphasized the team’s mental strength: „But in the end, I’d say we handled it well because we don’t let things like that stop us.“

The focus is now fully on the second leg in the Allianz Arena – and Bayern still believe they are in a good starting position. „Yes, and everything is still possible for us in the second leg,“ Tah made clear
He also praised the work of the coaching team after Vincent Kompany was not allowed to stand on the touchline due to his suspension. „I think the staff did a good job. I think they communicated a lot beforehand,“ explained Tah, adding: „And in the end, we’re the ones who have to perform on the pitch, even if the coach isn’t there.“
Despite the five goals conceded, the international also drew positive conclusions from the attacking performance. „I think you really saw that we can score a lot of goals,“ he said, deriving confidence from this: „And that’s why we’re going into this second leg with full confidence, in the Allianz Arena, giving it our all and then aiming for the final.“
The message is clear: despite the setback, the dream of reaching the final is still alive – and FC Bayern firmly believe they can turn things around in front of their own fans.
