Legendary coach Fabio Capello views Inter Milan as the favorites in one of the tightest Scudetto races in recent memory.

Interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInter1908, Capello named the Nerazzurri the top candidates to win the Serie A title this season.

Indeed, a 2-1 away win over Genoa saw the San Siro giants leapfrog AC Milan and Napoli at the summit.

Next on Inter’s list of assignments is reclaiming Supercoppa Italiana glory, with a high-stakes semi-final tie against Bologna coming on Friday.

Meanwhile, Napoli and Milan will trade tackles in the other last-four tie a day earlier.

Therefore, Chivu’s charges will spend Christmas as the pacesetters.

However, there’s no room for complacency, with only two points separating the top three teams.

The season is long, and Inter must not tuck themselves into a false sense of security despite returning to the top.

Capello hailed Inter’s performance at Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

“Against Genoa, I saw them lively,” he said. “They pressed continuously, as they’ve rarely done this year.

“They deservedly took the lead early, but, as usual, they faltered a bit in moments of difficulty.

“There was a wobble after Genoa’s goal. Inter can’t dominate the field for the entire match, but they knew how to endure.”

Asked whether the Nerazzurri are the favorites to dethrone Napoli, Capello replied: “Yes.

“They have more players and can, for example, rest the ThuLa pairing with substitutes that no other rival has in their squad.

“A good rotation, one that keeps the team’s level high, can bring important results.

“Milan and Napoli don’t have backups of the same quality, although I rank Napoli just behind Inter when all their injured players return.
