Veteran Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan could return to action next weekend when bottom-half Empoli touch down at the San Siro.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Armenian star should regain full fitness by next weekend, handing coach Simone Inzaghi a massive boost.
Mkhitaryan was unavailable for selection last weekend when the Nerazzurri squeaked past Venezia 1-0.
Unfortunately, he’ll miss out on Bologna’s visit to Giuseppe Meazza today.
The same goes for Hakan Calhanoglu, who sustained a muscle injury in the Supercoppa Italiana final against AC Milan.
However, the Turkish playmaker will probably stay on the sidelines until the end of January.
Calhanoglu’s absence comes as a massive blow for Inter.
But Inzaghi will rely on Kristjan Asllani to fill the vacancy.
Meanwhile, Piotr Zielinski will likely replace Mkhitaryan today now that Davide Frattesi has set one foot out of Meazza.
With Frattesi pushing for an exit, Mkhitaryan’s recovery has become paramount.
Indeed, Inter will play four more games in January, including two crucial UEFA Champions League outings.
Sparta Prague and Monaco will challenge Inter’s European credentials later this month.
Since Inzaghi cannot count on Calhanoglu, having Mkhitaryan ready must be a relief.
