A recent departure from the defensive ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona has moved to reiterate his belief that he made the right call in moving on over the summer.
The player in question? Iñigo Martínez.
The name of defender Iñigo of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital early last month.
As much came after word was forthcoming that, somewhat out of the blue, the 34-year-old was on the verge of bringing a close to the Barcelona chapter of his career.
In the face of a big-money offer from the Middle East, Iñigo made the call to move on for one final pay day.
Barcelona, for their part, did not stand in the way of the stopper’s exit, opening the door for as much courtesy of a contract termination.
And as alluded to above, with his first month of Saudi football now under his belt, Iñigo feels as though he ultimately made the right call on his future.
Speaking during an interview with Al-Nassr’s media channels (as cited by Mundo Deportivo) this week, the experienced stopper described his Saudi switch as ‘a well-made decision’, before explaining:
“I wanted to try other challenges, another city, and another culture. It’s the first time I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone, and I was really looking forward to it. I wanted the next step, to compete in this league and have this wonderful experience.”
