Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Thatayaone Ditlhokwe has been named in Botswana's preliminary squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

South African coach Morena Ramoreboli named a 55-man Zebras squad, which is set to be trimmed down to the final group of players who will represent Botswana in North Africa.

In goals, former Bloemfontein Celtic and Platinum Stars shot-stopper Kabelo Dambe has been included in the squad and will be hoping to make the cut for the final squad.

The defense is headlined by captain Ditlhokwe, along with Gaborone United duo Thato Kebue and Mothusi Johnson, and Benson Mangolo of Richards Bay FC, among others.

MC Oran's Gape Mohutsiwa is a notable inclusion in midfield, while Gilbert Baruti, Mothusi Cooper, Omphile Vissage, and teenage sensation Tlotlo Keipidile are also in contention.

Ramoreboli named a strong attack led by Wydad Casablanca's Tumisang Orebonye with Thatayaone Kgamanyane, Thabang Sesinyi, Kabelo Seakanyeng and Onkabetse Makganthai, among others.

Botswana have been pitted in Group D alongside continental juggernauts including Senegal and DR Congo, while Benin round up the group.

The continental showpiece will commence on 21 December and the Zebras will be looking to register their first win at the tournament, having failed to do so in their maiden participation in 2012.
