Sheyi Ojo has joined the 11th club of his career after signing a deal with Kazakh side Aktobe.

Sheyi Ojo has had a very eventful career that has taken him to many countries across the globe, with the winger having now joined Kazakh side Aktobe.

The 29-year-old was very highly-rated as a kid, with some top clubs in England battling for his signature as a teenager due to his performances with MK Dons’ academy.

It was Liverpool who did win the race to sign Ojo, and the attacker progressed through the ranks at Anfield, and he made his debut for the club back in 2016, which was one of 13 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.

Unsurprisingly, due to the quality he was competing against, Ojo found it difficult to break into the first-team at Liverpool, so a host of loan moves were arranged over the years, with the England youth international featuring for the likes of Wolves, Fulham and Reims in that period.

Despite showing flashes of his undoubted talent, Ojo failed to truly convince at most of the clubs he joined, although he did have a productive spell with Cardiff in the Championship.

That convinced the Bluebirds to sign Ojo on a permanent basis, but he couldn’t get back to his best in what was only one full season with the Welsh club before he joined Kortrijk in Belgium.

Once his deal with Cardiff expired, Ojo was on the move again, this time joining Slovenian side Maribor, and he has featured regularly in the past two years as they recorded a second-placed finish and a fifth-placed finish during his time at the club.

With his contract once again coming to an end, this summer was going to see another fresh start for the player, and it has been announced that he has joined Aktobe, who play in Kazakhstan.

They are not a club that many fans in the UK will know, but they do have one familiar face in their ranks, as ex-Man Utd winger Nani is playing for the side, at the age of 39.

Ojo will be linking up with the team with the season well underway, with Aktobe currently fifth after 20 games, and whilst a top two finish looks unrealistic, they are firmly in the hunt to come third, which would bring European football.

It has been a very interesting career for Ojo, and he has certainly seen a lot of the world over the past decade, and it will have no doubt been a great experience to play in so many different leagues.

This isn’t how he would’ve envisaged his career going when he started out, but he clearly has a love for the game, and this will be another new chapter for him.

For whatever reason, he has yet to find a proper home at a club where he could get regular minutes, and that probably prevented him fulfilling the potential that many saw in him as a teenager.

The clubs that took a chance on him over the years demonstrate how he was viewed in the game, and whilst injuries didn’t help on occasions, it’s a shame that he didn’t get to do more in England.
