Arsenal put themselves in pole position to reach the Carabao Cup final after beating Chelsea 3-2 in the first-leg of their semi-final tie on Wednesday.
Ben White, Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Zubimendi were on target for the Gunners, but Alejandro Garnacho struck twice to keep the Blues in the tie.
Arsenal are alive in all four major competitions in 2025-26, but Troy Deeney claims they could still go trophyless this season.
The former Watford star believes a loss to City in the Carabao Cup final could ‘break their spirit’, which would then have a knock-on effect in the Premier League title race.
Deeney told CBS Sports: “I could make an argument they don’t win any. What could happen is Man City win the Carabao Cup and that breaks the spirit. You just heard William Saliba talking about how his pockets were empty so they’re clearly trying to win something.
“Could they go out in the FA Cup? Of course they can, because they’re concentrating on the Champions League. If you start to lose games, you lose Declan Rice to injury, they could lose the title.”
Arsenal have finished second in the Premier League in each of the previous three seasons.
But they look to have made huge strides forward this campaign.
The Gunners bolstered their squad in the summer by bringing in Zubimendi, Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze.
Zubimendi, Madueke and Eze have hit the ground running at the Emirates Stadium, while Gyokeres has also shown flashes of brilliance recently.
Arsenal boast a 100 per cent record in the Champions League this term, and have lost only two matches in all competitions.
They sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League, and are also doing well in the two cup competitions.
Given their performances and results so far, it looks wrong to suggest that Arsenal will go trophyless this season.
