Wrexham's Josh Windass has hailed Pep Guardiola as the best manager of all time after Man City beat Arsenal in the League Cup final.

Pep Guardiola became the most successful manager in the history of the League Cup as Man City beat Arsenal on Sunday, which means he has won the competition five times.

The Spaniard has had a tranformative impact on football since he started management, which included dominating domestically and in Europe with Barcelona, before sweeping up with Bayern Munich in Germany.

Guardiola joined City in the 2016/17 season, and he has gone on to win every possible trophy over the next decade for the club.

Josh Windass weighs into managerial debate as he makes Pep Guardiola claim

When you take into account the stylish football that Guardiola implements, it’s no surprise that he is often regularly in the discussion when football fans debate who is the greatest manager of all time.

Of course, it’s all down to individual preference, and there will be many that believe the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Carlo Ancelotti or Johan Cruyff should take the title as the best ever.

But there is a strong case to put Guardiola as number one given his influence on the game as well as his success, and one player who echoes that view is Josh Windass.

The Wrexham attacker took to his Instagram story after City’s Carabao Cup win to react to a picture of Guardiola celebrating on the touchline with the message that read ‘greatest manager of all time’.

Guardiola will be hoping more silverware will follow this season to add to his legacy, as City are still in the FA Cup, with a quarter-final against Liverpool looming, and they are still in the title race, even if they have a lot of work to do to catch Arsenal.

However, Guardiola won’t be able to win the Champions League for a fourth time this season, as City were eliminated by Real Madrid over two legs.

Josh Windass will hope to come up against Pep Guardiola’s Man City next season

As mentioned, this is all down to opinions, and there will be some that disagree with Windass when he says that Guardiola is the best there has ever been.

But, it’s good to see a footballer share their thoughts on the sort of debate that many fans have up and down the country in pubs and at stadiums on a weekly basis.

On the pitch, the challenge for Windass and his Wrexham teammates is to ensure they’re playing against Man City next season.

The Red Dragons picked up a crucial win over Sheffield United last time out, with Windass finding the net, which has left them outside the play-off places on goal difference.

So, Wrexham are entering a huge period of the campaign, but there will be a belief among Phil Parkinson’s group that they can make it four promotions on the bounce, which would add to their incredible story.

That would see Wrexham take on the biggest clubs in the UK next season, and, given his message, coming up against Guardiola would be a special one for Windass - if the ex-Barcelona chief sticks around, as there are doubts about his future at City beyond this season.
