Middlesbrough are now searching for a new manager following the decision to part ways with Michael Carrick.

The 43-year-old oversaw a disappointing 10th-placed finish in the Championship table last season, with the team missing out on a top six result by just four points.

A number of names are already emerging as potential replacements, with the club hoping to appoint someone that can guide them to the Premier League.

One available manager includes Sean Dyche, who previously led Burnley to promotion twice, and has several years of experience in the top flight.

Claim made on Sean Dyche's suitability as Middlesbrough manager

When asked about potentially appointing Dyche, FLW’s Middlesbrough fan pundit Liam Day claimed he’d be a great hire.

He believes that the ex-Everton boss’ track record is very promising, and that his reputation for playing bad football doesn’t matter if it leads to a Premier League return.

“Sean Dyche seems to have a reputation of playing bad football, but when you play bad football and get promoted, I always see that as a good thing,” Day told Football League World.

“I don’t see any problem with Sean Dyche. I would quite like him as the manager.

“It does seem to be a bit split with Boro fans; a lot saying they don’t want Dyche in, but personally I don’t see a problem with it.

“He’s kept Burnley up, he’s kept Everton up in a very bad situation, he’s got teams promoted, he’s exactly what we need - a winner.

“We need a team that’s strong, we need a team that will defend together - that’s what Dyche brings.

“Whilst obviously I can appreciate he probably does think he’s too good for us now, I do think he’d be a good candidate and I would welcome him to Boro happily.

“Despite other fans saying no, I don’t think that makes any sense, personally. If you want promotion, you get Dyche in, it’s as simple as that.”

Dyche left Everton in January, but it remains to be seen whether he’d be interested in a move to Middlesbrough at this point in his career.

Sean Dyche appointment would be fantastic for Middlesbrough

The decision to sack Carrick will hinge on Middlesbrough getting the appointment of his replacement right.

If Boro can convince Dyche to take the step back down to the Championship, then he would be a worthwhile pick to take over.

His track record speaks for itself, having twice guided Burnley to Premier League promotion, even saw the club qualify for the Europa League with a seventh-placed finish in the top flight in the 2017/18 season.

Concerns over his style of play are also somewhat overblown, and there are plenty of reasons to be confident he could lead Middlesbrough
