Graham Alexander's side have endured a patchy run of form in recent weeks, but were able to get back to winning ways with a vital 2-0 win over Crewe last weekend.

The Bantams have been on the periphery of achieving promotion out of League Two over the last two seasons, with a sixth-placed finish in 2022/23 followed up by a ninth-placed finish last term.

That marked significant progression for the football club, who had finished 14th and 15th respectively in the two campaigns prior.

Now finding themselves just a few wins away from securing their return to League One, the major strides of improvement witnessed at the University of Bradford Stadium this season will have many wondering if they can continue their upward trajectory in the third tier should they get their next term.

Wrexham have laid down a strong benchmark for the sides who come up from League Two next season, but could Bradford City follow in their footsteps?

"I would argue" - Don Goodman makes Bradford City League Two claim

Speaking exclusively with Football League World, we asked Sky Sports pundit and former player, Don Goodman: 'Do you think Bradford City could emulate the likes of Wrexham next season by competing at the top end of League One, assuming they get there?'

Goodman said: "At this point with Bradford City, I think you would have to assume when you look at the league table, they're only three points clear of fourth-placed Doncaster Rovers, who have a game in hand.

"So, it's super tight at the top of League Two. In fact, it's outrageously tight. So there can be no assumptions. But having said all of that, it is a big club, Bradford City.

"Certainly, I would argue, the biggest club in League Two, with huge potential to do very, very well in League One if they get there, and if they've got the finances to invest.

"I do think that over the years, many, many clubs have shown the difference between League Two and League One isn't that massive.

"So potentially, they could certainly be challenging in the top half. But, you can't really get carried away just yet if you're Bradford City."

Wrexham AFC's League Two statistics point to obvious areas for Bradford City improvement and hope

Wrexham's success has been well documented over the last few seasons, with their meteoric rise up the English footballing pyramid a tale that has captured the hearts of many people across the world.

The Red Dragons were able to win back-to-back promotions with their second-placed finish in League Two last term, and when diving into the numbers behind that achievement, it's clear where Bradford may need to improve, and what they need to keep doing well, should they wish to challenge for promotion in League One next season if they get there.

As outlined in the table above, ahead of Bradford's 42nd game of the season this weekend, Wrexham averaged a better goals per game and shots on target per game average in League Two last term than the Bantams have this season - per FotMob.

Therefore, improving their attacking output is perhaps a clear area that Bradford need to address in the summer transfer window.

However, City are currently posting better numbers in a host of key defensive categories. Bradford's 0.8 goals conceded per game, 2.2 saves per game and 11.1 successful tackles per game are all better numbers than what Wrexham posted in the fourth tier last season.

The Bantams' 51.4 per cent average possession is also slightly higher than that of Wrexham's last season. Therefore, there are a host of highly encouraging signs that Bradford are well-equipped for success in League One next season, should they get over the promotion line.
