Chelsea’s defence, midfield and attack are seeing some serious incomings and outgoings at the moment, but we’re not hearing anything about movements in goal.
There was the initial interest in Mike Maignan at the start of the summer that got pretty serious – but since then there’s been nothing. The briefings have continued that the club are happy with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen – despite the bids for Maignan having clearly shown that to be a half truth at best.
Now our writer Simon Phillips comes in with some really interesting exclusive information. He says that there’s a “fair chance” we see first team goalkeeper movements at Chelsea before the end of the window.
“The planning has always been that they want one,” he says.
“But it has to be the right one… they walked from Mike Maignan but sources have always said there has been an expectation that they will return and try again later in the window as a tactic because Milan do not want to lose him on a free next summer,” he continues.
Chelsea are said to have discussed goalkeepers internally “all window.” But they’re keeping it quiet because they don’t want to be “seen as desperate to sign one.”

As well as keepers coming in, we could see a departure soon. Jorgensen “could leave on loan or permanently,” as he “doesn’t want to be backup again this season.”
That makes sense – at least last year he had the Conference League to himself. This year we can’t imagine we’ll be rotating keepers in the Champions League.
However, it’s hard to see the club sanction his exit without having first found an alternative. He may just have to be patient this season while Mike Penders continues to develop on loan.
