The future of Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is one story to watch for heading into the summer transfer window. The Brazilian international is an integral player for Pep Guardiola’s side. He has been a key component of Manchester City’s play since he arrived at the club from Benfica. During his time at City, he has helped Pep Guardiola’s side dominate both English and European football. But based on information sourced by Esteemed Kompany it does appear that Ederson could be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season.
Esteemed Kompany sources have informed us that Ederson is increasingly likely to leave Manchester City in the summer. Furthermore, Esteemed Kompany understands that Saudi Pro League clubs Al Hilal, Al Nassr and Al Ittihad could be the favourites to sign City’s number-one keeper. It is also been brought to our attention that unnamed Premier League and La Liga clubs are also monitoring Ederson’s situation. It has also been suggested that Ederson would be demanding a four-year deal to move to the Saudi Pro League. Lastly, it is expected that Manchester City would demand a transfer fee of around €30-35 million to sell Ederson in the summer.
If Ederson were to depart Manchester City in the summer then City would be forced to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer. Stefan Ortega could step into the role as City’s number-one keeper if needed. But you do sense that if Ederson departs, City will need a top-quality replacement. Finding one who could step into Ederson’s shoes is no simple task. His ability in possession is almost unmatched in European football. It has been a crucial component in Manchester City’s play and continues to be. We saw this during Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Chelsea at the of January. Ederson’s ability to play a quality long ball was crucial to City’s victory. We also saw it during City’s 4-nil win over Newcastle in February when he set up Omar Marmoush’s opening goal at the Etihad.
If Ederson does depart Manchester City in the summer he will leave a sizable void in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Filling that void will be no easy feat. But it does appear that the Brazilian keeper could be set to leave City in the summer. His future is now a story to monitor ahead of and during the summer transfer window.
