Huddersfield have joined Bolton in the race to sign Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman, FLW understands.
Huddersfield Town have joined Bolton Wanderers in the race to sign Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman, Football League World has exclusively been informed.
The 21-year-old shot-stopper spent the 2024/25 season on loan with AFC Wimbledon, and is a former England youth international.
Goodman signed his first professional contract with Crystal Palace in July 2021 as a 17-year-old, but is yet to make his first-team debut for the Eagles.
Football League World has exclusively been informed that Huddersfield Town are one of a number of EFL clubs chasing Crystal Palace goalkeeper Owen Goodman.
FLW understands that this would be a loan deal, as the impressive young goalkeeper looks to prove himself at a higher level of EFL football next season.
The Bolton News revealed on 20 May that Wanderers are indeed another club who have the Eagles keeper in their sights this summer, as Steven Schumacher looks to find his replacement for the departing Nathan Baxter.
As previously mentioned, Goodman spent last season out on loan with League Two side AFC Wimbledon, and he would quickly establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the division at the Cherry Red Records Stadium.
The 21-year-old started every single one of the Dons' 46 regular season games, as well each of their three League Two play-off matches, which culminated in him and the club winning promotion to League One after a play-off final win over Walsall.
Having enjoyed a superb season in League Two last term, Goodman certainly announced himself as one of the brightest young goalkeeping talents playing in the EFL last season.
Crystal Palace have become renowned for their recruitment and development of young talent, and Goodman looks to be another Eagles player with a very bright future ahead of him.
As such, having proven that he was probably too good for League Two level with Wimbledon, the next natural step would be for him to test himself in League One next term.
Both Huddersfield and Bolton's goalkeeping situations are somewhat up in the air, with the starting role at both clubs for 2025/26 seemingly wide open.
For the Terriers, Chris Maxwell has retired from the game following the end of the 2024/25 season, leaving just Lee Nicholls and Jacob Chapman as the only senior options in-between the sticks at the John Smith's Stadium.
However, veteran shotstopper, Nicholls, didn't enjoy his best season in a Town shirt last term, as he and the 24-year-old Chapman shared the starting role with 23 League One appearances each.
As for Bolton, the aforementioned departure of Baxter to Watford has also left Schumacher's goalkeeping options fairly light. Luke Southwood now stands as the only proven senior option in the squad, as like Baxter, Joel Coleman has also left the Toughsheet Community Stadium following the expiration of his contract.
Therefore, both clubs look sure to be in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, and given the situations in both clubs' goalkeeping departments, Goodman could have a big chance of becoming the number one in-between the sticks once again should he sign with either side.
