There has been a lot of noise around Rangers’ transfer activity this summer but as always the real work is being done quietly behind the scenes. Fans are speculating about names while the club keeps its cards close to its chest. However certain names do start to filter out when talks reach a more serious stage and one such name that has come into sharp focus is Liverpool left back Owen Beck. Sources tell Ibrox Noise Rangers are making a serious move to land the defender who has already proven himself in Scotland.
Beck, who made a strong impression during his time at Dundee, is being pursued as a potential key signing by Rangers and reports confirm that the club has launched a major bid to secure his services. While he may not have featured regularly for Liverpool’s first team, the youngster showed enough quality in the Scottish Premiership to convince many that he has what it takes to succeed at Ibrox. His pace, positioning and ability to link up going forward make him a very attractive option for the left side of defence.
Rangers have been weighing up their full-back options for months and the decision to move on from Borna Barisic has opened the door for a new face to take over the role. Beck’s previous experience in Scotland gives him a clear advantage over other options and the fact he has already handled the physical demands of the league will be appealing to those inside the club. An earlier report confirmed Rangers had made an enquiry for the player and now it appears that things have stepped up a level.
Liverpool are expected to be open to a deal that would give Beck regular football at a high level and Rangers are keen to take advantage of that opportunity. According to The Times, Beck is highly rated by coaches and carries strong potential to develop into a top level defender. The fact he is the great nephew of Ian Rush only adds a bit of extra glamour to the story. All signs suggest this could be a very smart bit of business if Rangers are able to get it done in the coming days.
