A deal has been agreed for a youngster from the Etihad Stadium to help struggling Sheffield Wednesday

Struggling Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on some much-needed help in the transfer window, with a deal agreed with Premier League giants Man City to bring in a loanee to aid their ailing squad, Football League World can exclusively confirm.

The Owls are almost certainly going to be relegated from the Championship this season, with multiple deductions from the EFL leaving them on minus seven points with 21 games remaining.

In administration since late October when maligned owner Dejphon Chansiri finally relinquished control of the club, Wednesday's prospective new owner James Bord is not yet in position at Hillsborough as he needs to pass vital checks to make sure he is fit and proper for the task at hand, and because of that, head coach Henrik Pedersen still has to deal with strict transfer restrictions.

Because of their past issues under Chansiri, Sheffield Wednesday cannot sign any players for transfer fees until the summer of 2027, but they have been granted special dispensation once more to sign two 'free' loan players.

It will have to be a similar deal that they did in the summer when landing Man United left-back Harry Amass, with the Red Devils agreeing to cover the teenager's wages so he could go and get game-time - although he has now returned to Old Trafford and is likely to head elsewhere in the Championship.

Wednesday will need similar favours from clubs this month to bolster their squad, and it appears that they have made a breakthrough with a top flight club to bolster their midfield.

FLW understands that the Owls are advancing in discussions to bring Man City youngster Jaden Heskey to the club for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, with a deal already struck in principle with the Etihad Stadium outfit.

20-year-old Heskey - the son of former England international striker Emile - is yet to play in a Premier League game for the former European champions, but he made his first-team debut alongside his younger brother Reigan in an EFL Cup clash with Huddersfield Town in September last year, coming off the bench on 76 minutes for a cameo under Pep Guardiola.

The captain of City's under-21's side, Heskey has been a regular in Ben Wilkinson's side in the middle of the park in the Premier League 2 competition, and also grabbed two assists against League Two side Oldham Athletic in a 5-1 demolition job of the Latics in the EFL Trophy earlier in the season.

Sheffield Wednesday have been long-term admirers of Heskey, and they look to be closing in on his services in what will be a generous offering by Man City in a bid to give the youngster some senior experience.

Wednesday's midfield has been led by 36-year-old Barry Bannan all season, having not missed a single league match, but with Nathaniel Chalobah still sidelined, Svante Ingelsson is the only other experienced engine room operator that Pedersen can call upon, with young Jarvis Thornton recently coming into the side.

He could now make way though for Heskey, should a deal be completed, with the first of Wednesday's two available loan deal slots set to be used up.
