Lee Hendrie has told FLW his verdict on Richard Kone's promising start to life at QPR
Lee Hendrie believes that QPR have struck transfer gold with their move to sign Richard Kone over the summer.
It was reported by the Independent that the London outfit sealed an agreement with Wycombe Wanderers worth £2.75 million, excluding add-ons.
The forward had an impressive campaign in League One last year, scoring 18 times as Wanderers narrowly missed out on promotion with play-off disappointment.
Kone has so far scored three goals from four appearances in the Championship for QPR, including in 3-1 wins over both Wrexham and Charlton Athletic.
At the age of 22, supporters will be excited about the impact he’s having on the team already given he still has potential to develop and improve as a player as he gains more experience at this level.
Hendrie has praised QPR for taking the chance on bringing Kone to the Championship, claiming it has worked well so far after only a handful of games.
He believes the forward could be like transfer gold if he can continue to score goals at a consistent rate, and that he could yet even attract major interest from clubs in the future.
“It’s still early stages in the season, it’s all about Kone keeping fit, but since he’s come in he’s been really hungry to go and show he’s capable of stepping up, being that player,” Hendrie exclusively told Football League World.
“And he has been, which has been brilliant for him.
“So, yes, lots of clubs probably looked at him, fancied him, but didn’t take the punt to a certain extent, but QPR did and he’s really fit the bill for them.
“It’s brilliant for the club when you bring your player and he hits the ground running, which Kone has done, so brilliant for them.
“Potential transfer gold, isn’t it, for them whether they end up staying at the football club or whether someone ends up trying to take him out of there.
“Either way, they’ve got a really good player on their hands.”
Kone was one of nine permanent additions at Loftus Road over the summer, arriving from Wycombe.
New manager Julien Stéphan was backed to make his mark on the side, with the club looking to improve on their 15th place finish from the previous campaign.
The Hoops are currently 12th in the table after the opening five fixtures, having earned seven points from a possible 15, winning two and drawing one.
Next up for QPR is a home clash against an in-form Stoke City on 20 September in a 12.30pm kick-off.
Kone has made the jump from League One to the Championship quite smoothly, which is incredibly encouraging for QPR.
The team has really lacked a consistent goal scorer in the last few years, particularly since Charlie Austin's exit, which has prevented them from being any way competitive in the Championship.
But Kone looks capable of potentially reaching 15 goals at least, if he can stay fit and continue performing at this level.
