What’s next for Max Eberl at FC Bayern? The sporting director’s contract expires in the summer of 2027, and no extension has been announced yet. During the presentation of new signing Nathaniel Brown, the 52-year-old commented publicly for the first time on his own future.

For more than two years, Max Eberl has been in charge of FC Bayern’s sporting affairs. During this time, the sporting director has played a key role in shaping the squad and has been responsible for numerous personnel decisions.

However, it remains unclear whether Eberl will stay at Säbener Straße beyond the summer of 2027. Accordingly, the Bayern boss was asked about his contract situation during the press conference to introduce Nathaniel Brown.

Eberl, however, avoided making any specific statements about a possible contract extension. “That’s not my job. My job is to do my job. I’ve been doing that for over two years now: building a squad that can achieve success, with players we can identify with, and playing a style of soccer that people enjoy watching,” explained the sporting director.

For him, the day-to-day work takes priority—not discussions about his own future. “That’s my job. And then a decision will be made about me. But that’s not what we’re here to talk about today,” Eberl added.

The focus is on on-field success

With his remarks, the 52-year-old made it clear that he is currently focused exclusively on his duties at the record-holding champions. In addition to ongoing squad planning, these include integrating new signings and shaping the club’s long-term sporting direction.

In recent transfer windows, Eberl has played a key role in restructuring and rejuvenating the roster. With signings like Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari, the Munich club is increasingly focusing on players with development potential who are expected to shape FC Bayern in the long term.

Eberl deliberately left open whether this work will ultimately be rewarded with a contract extension. He noted that the decision on this matter does not rest with him, but with the club’s leadership.

One thing is certain: The Munich club’s supervisory board will meet at the end of August. At that time, Uli Hoeneß and the others will make a final decision on the Eberl matter.
