Eze says he has been trying to get Arsenal to sign him for four years

Eberechi Eze has revealed that he always hoped Arsenal would notice him whenever Crystal Palace played at the Emirates, as he waited for the opportunity to return to the club. The midfielder was originally part of Arsenal’s academy, idolising Thierry Henry at the time, but he was released for not being considered good enough.

Despite early setbacks and further rejections as a teenager, Eze persevered. Queens Park Rangers eventually gave him a chance, offering a professional deal and providing the platform for him to develop further. His performances at QPR earned him a move to Crystal Palace, where he continued to grow into a key player, eventually attracting attention from Arsenal once again.

Eze was reportedly on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur before Arsenal intervened and secured his signature, a move the player describes as one he had been hoping for throughout his career. In fact, he personally informed Arsenal of his impending move to Tottenham, which allowed the Gunners to act swiftly and add him to their squad.

Every time I came to Arsenal, I looked at the seat that I used to sit on when I used to come to games with my brothers. I’ve said every single time: ‘This is it – it’s time, this is an opportunity.’ I’m not going to say I knew it was going to happen, but that’s the feeling. I thought about coming back from the moment I understood other clubs and what it meant to become a pro. I’ve always thought: ‘Arsenal is where it’s at, that’s what I want to achieve, what I want to get to.’”
