Leeds United and Chelsea head to Wembley on Sunday with significant injury issues before their FA Cup semi-final. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, both camps are juggling absences after a congested week.
Chelsea dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior following Tuesday night’s 3-0 loss at Brighton, when key players were unavailable. Leeds also travelled to Bournemouth the following evening, earning a 2-2 draw sealed by a 95th-minute equaliser.
Daniel Farke said on Thursday that United suffered fresh setbacks both before and during that game, and he is waiting on three players, with one other ruled out.
Chelsea’s absentees include Estevao, the 19-year-old Brazilian international winger, who sustained a hamstring injury last weekend against Manchester United and is out for the rest of the season. Jamie Gittens, 21, is still sidelined with a hamstring issue suffered before the quarter-final win over Port Vale, with no timeframe given. England centre-back Levi Colwill remains a long-term casualty after last summer’s anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Mykhaylo Mudryk is suspended after being charged with a doping offence by the FA. Leeds have lost Ilia Gruev to a meniscus injury in training this week, with Farke confirming on Thursday that his season is over.
Reece James has not featured since a hamstring problem last month and, with no update at Friday’s press conference, he appears set to remain out. Interim head coach Callum McFarlane’s Friday briefing had updates on two star men high on the agenda.
