Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Liverpool's plans to sign an elite winger. Over £100m could be going out here.

Liverpool are in the market for a winger and that much should be obvious to everyone. The Reds’ production out wide last season was pretty awful and they seriously lacked pace in the side.

It’s a problem made all the worse by Mohamed Salah leaving the club. Despite his worst campaign for the club, he still managed six goals and six assists - that’s more than most potential replacements can boast.

Liverpool, then, want to shop in the top bracket this summer. Yan Diomande was the main goal but the Ivorian prefers a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

It’s a blow but one that has the club pivoting to, well, PSG. If they want a new winger, surely they can afford to give up one that they already have?

Liverpool did, to their credit, see this coming. Anfield Watch exclusively reported back in April that they saw Bradley Barcola as a ‘market opportunity’ as his contract continues to wind down.

Things have grown since then, with Barcola shining at the World Cup and drawing all sorts of interest. Liverpool do face a bit of competition for him, then, but they’ll fancy their chances if PSG are willing to sell.

It’s unclear whether they are. Fabrizio Romano, though, is adamant that Liverpool are leading the charge for Barcola as they continue to wait on PSG setting an actual price tag.

"Understand Liverpool remain the club showing most concrete interest in Bradley Barcola,” he writes. "No truth in [Barcola] links, LFC deal depends on conditions for the exit as price will be set by PSG.

"No talks over new contract so far."

This one will continue to drag on, then, until Liverpool either sign Barcola or sign any other winger. But it’s one that almost certainly costs over £100m if it does go through.

PSG aren’t going to let him go cheaply, if at all.
