  • Brazilian winger Savinho could make a summer switch to Tottenham, leading to a restructuring of Manchester City’s forward line.
  • Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirms Etihad Stadium chiefs have an eye on elite wide talent to reinforce incoming manager Enzo Maresca’s system.
  • Following an underwhelming domestic campaign where Savinho recorded just seven Premier League starts under Pep Guardiola, a bidding war is brewing.

Hugo Viana and Manchester City are in the transfer market for a new wide attacking player this summer, it has been explained.

With Sporting Director Hugo Viana busy since being formally appointed into the role last summer, the club is moving once again with clear intent to curate a strong squad for incoming manager Enzo Maresca.

Fresh from securing a domestic cup double at Wembley but missing out on the Premier League crown to Arsenal, Manchester City’s hierarchy is seemingly determined to inject explosive, direct verticality into the first-team.

The strategic focus on wide assets comes alongside a clear desire to make Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson their marquee central midfield signing, alongside additional recruitment in the right-back role.

The January arrival of Antoine Semenyo alongside the electric form of Jérémy Doku and Rayan Cherki has restricted competitive minutes out wide, leaving key squad members openly questioning their long-term developmental paths – such as Savinho.

Manchester City prepare for Savinho exit and replacement

Now, speaking on his latest report on YouTube, Fabrizio Romano has revealed a new development concerning Manchester City and their transfer hunt for a new wide attacking player this summer.

“Keep an eye on Manchester City because if Savinho goes to Tottenham, Manchester City could go for a new winger,” Romano explained.

He continued, “My understanding is that Manchester City are exploring the possibility to go for a new winger.”

Enzo Maresca could reshape the identity of the Man City squad

The potential departure of the 22-year-old to North London stems from his personal desire to pursue guaranteed, regular first-team minutes after a restrictive campaign where he recorded only 14 starts across all competitions, ultimately being omitted from Brazil’s World Cup squad.

While Guardiola rigidly blocked an identical approach from Spurs during the previous summer transfer window, the managerial transition to Maresca has fundamentally loosened City’s internal stance, alongside the struggles of the player when granted an opportunity to impress.

Should Tottenham successfully meet a reported £60 million valuation, Hugo Viana will likely activate contingency targets to avoid leaving Enzo Maresca isolated for pre-season.

Among the early wide attacking names to have been linked with Manchester City transfer interest are Sporting’s Francisco Trincao, Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi, and RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.
