Fabrizio Romano issues update on Tottenham Hotspur plans to sign €65m Barcelona star | OneFootball

It is not ruled out that Barcelona make one or two big-money sales in the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window. The likes of Ronald Araujo, Alejandro Balde and Ferran Torres have been linked with exits, and in the last 24 hours, speculation has been rife regarding the future of Jules Kounde.

Despite a poor 2025-26 season from an individual standpoint, Barcelona are not actively looking to sell Kounde this summer, although they have started looking at replacements in the event that he leaves, knowing that any offers would be entertained. And one had looked set to arrive from Tottenham Hotspur, with reports that the Premier League side are ready to offer €65m for the France international defender.

However, these reports have now been denied by Fabrizio Romano, as he’s made it clear that “there’s nothing between Kounde and Spurs”, with no interest nor negotiations having been made known at this stage.

Kounde facing a crucial season in his Barcelona career

In a sense, Barcelona may be slightly disappointed that Spurs are not seeking a move for Kounde at this stage. €65m would be a very nice fee to receive – not only because they would make profit on the deal they did with Sevilla four years ago, but also because those funds could allow an extra player or two to be signed this summer.

Kounde was excellent during the first season of Hansi Flick’s tenure, but he was far away from his best during the 2025-26 campaign. Barcelona cannot afford a repeat in 2026-27, and while they are prepared to retain his services for the moment, it would be no surprise if a sale was actively sought in 2027 if his struggles continue over the next 12 months.

It remains to be seen whether there is any movement on Kounde’s future between now and the end of the summer, but for now, it appears that he will be staying at Barcelona for at least one more year.
